Return to Campus: At-a-glance

Operations are changing quickly as we respond to public health orders and plan for increased activity on campus. Below is a brief guide to support members of the UBCO community.


Teaching and academics

Effective: May 20, 2021

In-person teaching
Remote instruction is in place for most courses in the 2021 Summer Session. UBC is planning for a return to on-campus activity for Winter Session, Term 1, in September.

Study Spaces
Limited study spaces open on campus.

Exams
Exams for remote courses will not be in person. In-person exams for select courses.

Internships and Co-op Placements
Permitted, following public health guidelines.


Student services

Effective: May 20, 2021

Academic and Registration Support
Advisors are available to assist virtually by drop-in or appointment.

Health and Wellness Clinic
Clinic and counselling services are available by appointment.

Residences
Open, with COVID-19 residence rules. Self-isolation accommodation available. Visit UBCO Student Housing.

Other Student Services
Additional student services and supports.

Graduate and Postdoctoral Fellows
Visit College of Graduate Studies.


General services

Effective: July 1, 2021

Library
Physical locations are closed until further notice. Many services are available online. Visit Library.

IT Services
Submit online tickets to IT Helpdesk or call 250-807-9000. Visit the IT Return to Campus webpage for support with your technology needs.

Working

Effective: July 1, 2021

Return to campus
Faculty and staff preparing for direct, in-person teaching, learning, student support and other activities for the 2021/22 Winter Session are returning to campus as required. Work is being completed under the COVID-19 UBC Safety Planning Framework.

Meeting spaces
A limited number of bookable spaces available.


Research

Effective: June 23, 2021

On-campus
On-campus research and scholarly activity is currently managed at the Faculty level. Any changes to on-campus and in-person research will be aligned with BC’s Restart Plan and Provincial Health guidelines.

Fieldwork
Permitted, following process at the Faculty level. Visit Fieldwork.

In-person research involving human participants
Consult the Office of Research Ethics website for the latest guidance and updates. Contact the UBCO-Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BREB) for specific consultations.


Events

Effective: July 29, 2021

Status
On July 28, Interior Health (IH) declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the central Okanagan including new health safety measures. People attending events and gatherings are advised to be more cautious. Learn more.

Indoor and outdoor gatherings are permitted with capacity limits; see status of events for details. For a list of approved in-person Okanagan campus events, see Bookings and Events.

Limited access; Salto card access only for many spaces.

All routed through Campus Mail and Central Receiving.
