Province introduces travel restrictions along severely affected highways

December 9 – 12 pm PDT

Information on transportation restrictions is available at the Government of BC Transportation website.

  • Highway 1: Highway 1 eastbound is open fully in the Bridal Falls area to Hope. While the highway is not subject to an essential travel order, drivers are asked to avoid unnecessary travel on Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley.
  • Highway 3: Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton is open for essential travel only. Intercity transit via bus transport between the lower mainland and the Interior will be announced in days to come.
  • Highway 99: Highway 99 remains open between Pemberton and Lillooet for essential travel only. Large vehicles (bigger than a cube van) are not allowed.

December 6 – 12 pm PDT

  • Highway 99: Highway 99 is now open between Pemberton and Lillooet for essential travel only. Large vehicles (bigger than a cube van) are not allowed.

December 2 – 2 pm PDT

  • Highway 1: Highway 1 between Abbotsford and Chilliwack has been opened for all travelers, and for essential travel to just east of Highway 9 and Hope, through the Bridal Falls area.
  • Highway 3: Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton is open for essential travel only, although it is currently closed east of Princeton due to flooding.
  • Highway 99: Highway 99 between Pemberton and Lillooet remains closed until further notice, due to landslide.

November 30 – 12 pm PDT

Highway 99: Highway 99 between Pemberton and Lillooet will be closed effective 4 pm until further notice, in recognition of current weather events.

November 29 – 2 pm PDT

The current state of emergency for the Province of British Columbia has been extended until end of day, December 14, 2021.

The current fuel restrictions are extended until end of day, December 14, 2021.

  • Highway 1: Highway 1 between Abbotsford and Chilliwack remains closed, as does Highway 1 just east of Highway 9 and Hope, through the Bridal Falls area.
  • Highway 3: Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton is open for essential travel only.
  • Highway 99: Highway 99 between Pemberton and Lillooet is open for essential travel only.

November 28 – 5 pm PDT

  • Highway 1: Highway 1 between Abbotsford and Chilliwack will be closed at 5 pm. Highway 1 also remains closed between just east of Highway 9 and Hope, through the Popkum/Bridal Falls area.

November 27 – 2pm PDT

  • Highway 3: Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton will be closed at 2 pm.
  • Highway 1: Highway 1 in the Fraser Canyon and Highway 1 between Popkum and Hope will be closed at 2 pm.

The highway infrastructure in these areas is extremely vulnerable following recent storm events. The duration of these closures is dependent on the weather. The closures of these highways will be re-evaluated on November 28, with the highways reopening when it is safe to do so.

November 25, 2021 – 2 pm PDT

  • Highway 1: Highway 1 will reopen between Chilliwack and Abbotsford for regular travel, although people are advised to stay off Highway 1 unless necessary. Highway 1 remains closed from Abbotsford inland toward the Interior. All other previous travel restrictions remain in effect.

  • Highway 7: New travel restrictions are in place that limit travel from Murray Street in Mission to Highway 1 in Hope. These travel restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

November 23, 2021 – 9:45 am PDT

The Province of British Columbia has prohibited non-essential travel along specific sections of severely affected highways between the Lower Mainland and the Interior of BC. They include the following routes:

  • Highway 99: from the junction of Highway 99 and Lillooet River Road to the BC Hydro Seton Lake Campsite access in Lillooet.
  • Highway 3: from the junction of Highway 5 and Highway 3 in Hope to the west entrance to Princeton from Highway 3.
  • Highway 7: from the junction of Highway 7 and Highway 9 in Agassiz to the junction of Highway 7 and Highway 1 in Hope.

These travel restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

Please also note that the BC Provincial Government has introduced a restriction on fuel in Southwestern BC, as a result of the impact of the recent floods. This restriction does not apply to the Okanagan.
