UBC Okanagan Debates was created to champion civil discourse and bring together opposing views. The event series brings together renowned experts to discuss disputed and timely topics in a polarized world.
On May 3, 2023, UBC Okanagan Debates hosted its first event on-campus in the Commons lecture room. To accommodate growing popularity, the event has since been held in the Kelowna Community Theatre. UBC Vancouver adopted the series in 2026, hosting their first event at the UBC Robson Square Theatre.
Since the inaugural discussion on AI, UBC Okanagan Debates has addressed climate change, Canada-US relations, free speech, as well as the opioids and masculinity crises.
